FAQ

Subbic is designed to make legal directory submissions simpler, faster, and more collaborative. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we’re asked.

Trust in Subbic

What is Subbic?

Subbic is a secure online platform designed to streamline legal directory submissions for barristers’ chambers and law firms. Each user logs in to access a simple, structured dashboard showing exactly what they need to do - whether it’s drafting submissions, uploading referees, reviewing progress, or hitting deadlines.

Subbic gives marketing teams full visibility and control across all submissions, helping them manage contributors, track stages, and avoid errors.  The final submissions and spreadsheets are downloaded easily, ready for upload to the directory portals.

Subbic replaces scattered spreadsheets, emails and Word files with a centralised, collaborative workspace tailored to the Legal 500, Chambers & Partners, and other guides.

Who is Subbic for?

Subbic is built for barristers’ chambers and law firms that handle legal directory submissions - especially those with a marketing team or practice manager coordinating the process.

It helps streamline collaboration between contributors (like barristers, lawyers, or team leads) and the central team responsible for quality control and submission.

Whether you’re managing dozens of submissions across multiple practice areas or just want a better way to keep track of deadlines and referee lists, Subbic is designed to make the process smoother, faster, and less stressful.

How do we submit the results?

When you’re ready to submit, Subbic makes it easy. You can download each submission as a Word document, already formatted using the correct template for Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, or any other guide you’re targeting. Referees are exported as clean, perfectly-formatted Excel spreadsheets. From there, just upload the files to the relevant directory portals as usual—no extra formatting or copy-pasting needed.

Do we have to use it for every submission?

No. Subbic is flexible: different practice area teams can use different approaches if that suits your chambers or firm. As long as the right deliverables are prepared and uploaded to the directories, you can choose which teams or submissions go through Subbic and which don’t. Many clients start with a few teams and expand once they see the benefits.

Can we import past submissions?

We don’t automatically import past Word documents, as most clients prefer not to use AI tools to process confidential content. While it’s technically possible to convert them into structured entries using AI, we’ve found that users prefer to input past submissions manually—either in-house (e.g. by an intern) or via our optional concierge service.

We do, however, import your list of users and past referee spreadsheets to help you get up and running quickly.

How do lawyers / barristers access their submissions?

Lawyers and barristers log in to Subbic using their own secure account. They only see the submissions and case information relevant to them—not their colleagues’ content or broader practice area overviews.

When adding referees, they can link to shared contacts within their chambers or firm, so referee details only need to be updated once and are kept consistent across submissions.

It’s a focused, streamlined experience designed to save time and reduce duplication.

What support do we get?

Subbic includes a full support package to help your team get started and stay on track. We provide an initial training session for all users, access to a searchable knowledge base with written guides and video tutorials, and ongoing help via our responsive email support desk. Whether you need a quick refresher or help troubleshooting something, we’re here to support you.

Is Subbic secure?

Yes—security is a core priority at Subbic. The platform is hosted on Kinsta, using Google Cloud Platform infrastructure, protected by Cloudflare and additional firewalls. We support two-factor authentication and have robust security features built in. Each client can only see its own data, and individual users can only access the submissions they’re authorised to see. If you’re considering Subbic, we’ll give you access to our private ‘trust microsite’ with full details of our security practices, infrastructure, and suppliers.

Who owns the data?

You do. All the data you enter into Subbic - submissions, referee lists, notes, everything - remains yours. You can export it at any time, and if you’re cancelling or simply no longer need past years’ submissions, you can request full deletion. We don’t hold onto anything you haven’t asked us to keep.

How long is a contract?

Subbic contracts run for 12 months to cover the full legal directory cycle, but you can choose to pay monthly or annually (with two months free if you pay annually). There’s no long-term lock-in - just let us know at least one month before your renewal date if you’d like to cancel.

Can we try it out?

Yes.  We offer a trial plan for one directory, one round of submissions, and one practice area (up to 40 individuals), for £450.  If you upgrade, the fee will be deducted from your subscription.
